I was born in Ecuador and immigrated to the United States when I was a teenager. My parents worked 60 hours a week stocking shelves and cleaning offices to ensure that I had a good life. They taught me the importance of hard work, saving money, and the value of education. Because of their sacrifice, I was able to go to college and become an engineer at Boeing, here in Everett.

I started to advocate for safer roads in our district after I was hit by a car twice while commuting to work by bicycle. As I became more invested in helping our community, I decided to enroll at Cascadia College and obtained a B.S degree in Applied Sustainable Practices. As part of my capstone project, I developed the Sustainable Nourishing  Manual that was featured in the  Cascadia College’s Food Resource and Education Center Blog.

Because of my efforts, I was selected for the Sound Transit Community Board for the design of the Light Rail coming to Everett. There, I learned about the community displacement issues that the project will bring. Since then, I have been fighting for a sustainable design of the light rail and dignifying housing for the immigrant and low income community in Everett.

When I was approached to run for city council, I decided to take the opportunity because I want my daughter to grow up in a safe, walkable city and live the best life possible. As an engineer, it is my job to solve problems. I will bring my experience to the city council, where I will keep fighting to build affordable housing, address our budget crisis, increase public safety, and advocate for the needs of our community.

“As he’s shown on the light rail panel with concern for avoiding displacement of Casino Road residents and with his community garden proposal, Burbano blends an engineer’s talent for analysis with practical applications that provide holistic solutions. District 4 residents would be well represented by Burbano.”
